One thing I have to commend right off the bat is the UI, which features a circle and notes that travel down lanes for its rhythm portion. The problem is that the game is so inconsistent with its presentation, flitting between spectacular and disappointing constantly. When it puts effort in, IA/VT Colorful is among the most visually dazzling rhythm games available on Vita. Ultimately, I figured out more about IA through reading her Wikipedia page than I did from the game! Of course, that’s fine – the Miku games contained no plot for the longest time – but they also had stage performances providing context which are in precious short supply here. After the stylish anime opening, it’s straight into a procession of songs. DeveloperĬonsidering she’s nowhere near as well known as Hatsune Miku, it’s a little bit strange that there’s no attempt to introduce gamers to vocaloid IA in her debut videogame IA/VT Colorful. Miku-rivalling vocaloid game that gets lots right for its first attempt, but dull song choices and strange note patterns mean this isn’t one of the standouts of the genre.
